Free State Objectivists Meet in New Hampshire

Free State Objectivists is a current Objectivist discussion group in the Concord, New Hampshire, area. Originally, this group was called the Granite State Objectivists. Leader Wayne Anderson chose the new name to acknowledge the selection of his state as the target state for the Free State Project, an effort to encourage twenty thousand or more liberty-oriented people to move to one state to work within the system to reduce the size and scope of government. The motto of the Free State Project is "Liberty in Our Lifetime."

The group currently meets at the home of Serena and Paul Varley but will move soon to a new building at Pathfinder Academy. Anderson and his wife, Julie, are the owners of Pathfinder, a Montessori school. Their new facility will serve as a community center for Objectivists and libertarians, as well as greatly expand the capacity of the school.

For discussions, the Free State Objectivists typically choose a theme for the period of several meetings. They have recently covered Benjamin Franklin's autobiography. reading a chapter or two at a time and then discussing those portions. The group has also watched John Stossel tapes and worked up questions for the Objectivist trivia night promotion of Camp Indecon. Members have not promoted the group itself much due to size constraints, but once Pathfinder opens they will step up those efforts.
