Our Advocacy Mission

Our world is torn by irrationalism: by brute force and fanatical terrorism, by assaults on reason in the university, by political encroachments on our individual rights and liberties.

All these evils are the results of ideas: the moral and philosophical ideas that people have been taught are good and true.

And all these evils will end only as bad ideas are replaced by better ideas: by an inspiring new vision of human morality, human rights, and human potential.

Objectivism is that alternative. Ayn Rand's philosophy of rational individualism challenges the doctrines of irrationalism, self-sacrifice, brute force, and collectivism that have brought centuries of chaos and misery into the lives of millions.

Our advocacy and outreach efforts seek to present the principles of Objectivism to individuals worldwide, and to offer those principles as a rational and moral alternative in the marketplace of philosophical ideas. We do this through our magazine, The New Individualist, through commentaries, through Reports from the Front, through our own events, through speeches in public forums and universities, and through media appearances.

Our short- and medium-term strategy is to inject into cultural and policy discussions unique Objectivist ideas, especially Objectivist ethical principles -- for example, the moral supremacy of individual life, well-being, and happiness, and Objectivism's distinctive moral defense of capitalism. Even if individuals do not at first accept the entire philosophy, as they become acquainted with first one idea, then another, they will gradually acquire a framework of understanding on which a wider appreciation of Objectivism can be built.

Over the long term, we aim to make the term “Objectivism” recognized among opinion leaders and the public as a distinct and respected philosophical alternative -- in the same the way that, in politics, libertarian think tanks have made the term “libertarian” a recognized alternative, distinct from “liberal” and “conservative.”

Ultimately, as Objectivism comes to be known as the rational philosophical alternative, it will serve as a beacon to those millions searching for hope, meaning, and freedom in a world of growing irrationalism, chaos, and violence.
