Michael Huemer, Ph.D.
Course Description:
Michael Huemer will make the philosophical case for a right to own a gun, based on the notion of a right of self-defense, and reject the view that the Objectivist conception of government provides support for gun control. He will go on to critique the claim of gun control advocates that gun control saves lives; the empirical evidence, he will show, indicates that gun control contributes to crime and costs lives. Prof. Huemer received his Ph.D. from Rutgers University and is currently assistant professor of philosophy at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is the author of Skepticism and the Veil of Perception as well as several academic articles.
