Student Seminar on Badhwar Monograph

—Shawn Klein, M.A.

Course Description:

In this workshop, led by Shawn Klein, participants will discuss The Objectivist Studies Monograph "Is Virtue Only A Means To Happiness?" by Neera Badhwar. Over the course of three sessions, participants will discuss Badhwar’s argument for happiness as the ultimate value, her discussion of Rand and Aristotle’s account of virtue—in particular the role emotions play—and her argument against the instrumentalist view of virtue. Throughout the sessions, the response essays will be incorporated into the discussions. Mr. Klein received his masters in philosophy from Arizona State University. He has lectured at the Center’s Advanced Seminar and the Summer Seminar, and taught philosophy at various colleges in Arizona and New York. He currently teaches at Arizona State University and Mesa Community College. This course is intended primarily for students. Space is limited in order to keep discussions active, lively, and focused.
