Speakers Chosen for 2001 Summer Seminar

The Objectivist Center is pleased to announce a partial line-up of speakers for its twelfth annual summer seminar. The week-long conference will be held at the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown, from Saturday, June 30 to Saturday, July 7.

During this week, over 200 individuals, all of whom share a commitment to reason and individualism, will gather for intellectual stimulation, spiritual renewal, and fun.

The seminar will offer more than forty sessions on everything from epistemology to the arts. William R Thomas will offer a week-long introductory course on Objectivism. For more advanced students, David Kelley will offer a week-long advanced course on Objectivism. During the rest of the week participants will have the opportunity to see how Objectivist scholars approach the history of philosophy, the philosophy of law, political science, aesthetics, psychology, happiness, music, art, architecture, and dance.

Additional speakers will include: law professor David Mayer on contract rights; Scott Bullock of the Institute for Justice on the takings clause; Ed Hudgins of the Cato Institute on freedom in America; philosophy professor Stephen Hicks on the philosophy of history. In addition to these and other lectures, there will be poetry readings, architectural analysis, visits to museums, industrial landmarks, and architectural tours.
