Hudgins At The Movies

In his latest op-ed, TOC DC director Edward Hudgins took on Mel Gibson's box office hit "The Passion of Christ." While acknowledging that many of its supporters saw the film as an antidote to the value relativism in today's culture, Hudgins observed that the film's moral message in terms of sin, sacrifice, and suffering are just plain wrong for life on Earth. Rather, what our culture and each individual needs is moral code of personal responsibility, not original sin; self-interest, not self-sacrifice; and achievement, not suffering.

Hudgins' op-ed on the Oscar-winner for best foreign film, "The Barbarian Invasions," appeared on National Review Online. He observed that its portrayal of the Canadian government run heath care system as a disorganized, bureaucratized third-world mess was right on the mark. The portrait of a dying leftist professor showed a clear link between irresponsible political views and irresponsible lifestyle.
