TOC Reprints Unrugged Individualism

The Objectivism Center has reprinted David Kelley's Unrugged Individualism. The monograph was first released in 1996. Its subtitle is The Selfish Basis of Benevolence. Dr. Kelley argues that Ayn Rand, ". . . never gave this trait the kind of emphasis and attention she devoted to virtues like rationality, productiveness and justice." Kelley fills that gap in this work. The new edition is identical to the first except for minor editing and updating.

Stephen Cox, professor of literature at the University of California, San Diego, stated "Benevolence is one of Ayn Rand's most intriguing concepts. David Kelley's careful and comprehensive analysis of the nature and implications of benevolence is a memorable contribution to the study of Rand's ideas and individualist ideas in general."

Ray Stata, Chairman and CEO of Analog Devices said, "With scholarly attention to consistency with Ayn Rand's ideas and ideals, David Kelley's interpretation of benevolence puts a human face on the 'virtue of selfishness.' This subtle accent will appeal to those who are otherwise put off by the unnecessarily hard edge of Objectivist doctrine."
