Charles Tomlinson Died

Charles Tomlinson died Tuesday, December 28, 2004. Charles was a long-time supporter of The Objectivist Center. Charles participated in nine Summer Seminars. He was also a speaker, and delighted the audience with his stories during "In Performance." His book A View From My Stumpis still one of the best sellers at The Objectivism Store.

Charles and his wife Susanna founded the traveling Objectivists. He was also one of the driving forces behind the founding of The Atlasphere.

Charles was 72 years old. The obituary that the family placed in his local newspaper said, "Charles Edwin Tomlinson of Florence and Cherokee, Alabama, finished an excellent life . . . ."

Charles is survived by his wife Susanna, three children C. Allen Tomlinson, Vanessa T. Smyth, and Stephan R. Tomlinson, and six grandchildren.

The funeral will be private. There will be a local celebration of Charles's life from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, January 2nd at the Tomlinson Building at 250 South Poplar Street in Florence, Alabama.

The family suggests memorial donations to The Objectivist Center, the Cherokee Public Library (PO Box 333, Cherokee, AL 35616, (256) 359-4384), Hospice of the Shoals, or an organization of personal choice in lieu of flowers.


Charles was diagnosed with cancer in 2001. His thoughts about his pending death were printed in the May 2002 edition of Navigator.
